Photography has been with me for as long as I can remember. The first pictures came from my grandfather's Polaroid. Film followed, at first without a second thought, later more deliberately. Small format, medium format, large format, developing in my own darkroom. Much of that has stayed with me. The reduction, the waiting, the decision of when an image truly becomes an image.
For more than thirteen years I have worked as an independent photographer, running my own studio. My commercial work builds image worlds and visual languages for companies. It demands precision, control and a conscious decision over light, form and every detail.
Another side of my photography is more personal. Street photography and free artistic work. There I control less. I observe. I wait. Everyday situations become small stories, sometimes through light, sometimes through a gesture, sometimes only through the relationship of a person to the space around them.
Precision and chance. Construction and observation.
My photographic language lives between these two worlds. The planned, and what exists only for a single moment.
A masterclass with Bruce Gilden showed me how close you can get. Fred Mortagne opened a different way of seeing for me, one of line, architecture, space and the stillness inside an image.
At some point photography turned into writing as well. Writing brought the pleasure of passing on experience and photographic ways of thinking. Beyond Technique begins where technique becomes second nature. At seeing.
